Puntos de Encuentro: a cross-cultural approach to Advanced Spanish
 

Puntos de encuentro is an innovative Spanish textbook that promotes college learners’ development of Advanced language proficiency and cross-cultural competence.


Heavily informed by research on advanced foreign language learning, this textbook addresses the “advanced language challenge”: i.e. the difficulty of many college Spanish learners to use the language at advanced levels of performance after three years of college foreign language study. It also rethinks third-year Spanish language study by replacing traditional composition/conversation models with a broader approach to language and culture. The result is a more comprehensive Spanish program.


The premise of this textbook is that Advanced Spanish proficiency can be best achieved by using a content-based approach that views language as discourse, enhances the development of cross-cultural awareness, and bases pedagogical practice on a task-based framework.
